Death Throes O' Bronto

There are so many problems at Nukes now, it is almost like a Brontosaurus caught in a tar pit, begging for a mercy kill.    Indeed, let's help them, encourage your regulators and politicians to Shut Them All Down.

This is the second plant in the US! to be scrammed after loss of off site power, even though they have "4 lines coming into the plant", hows all that redundancy working out for ya?!

Exelon Corp’s (NYSE: EXC) 1,136 MW Unit 2 at the Byron nuclear power plant in Illinois shut down Jan. 30 after a loss of off-site power.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Exelon declared an unusual event at the plant the morning of Jan. 30. A spokeswoman was quoted as saying Exelon was looking into the trip and there was a transformer issue and reports of smoke.
The 1,164 MW Unit 1 continues to operate at full power.
This is the second nuclear power plant in as many weeks to shut down because of a loss of off-site power. On Jan. 16, the 1,200 MW Wolf Creek nuclear power plant in Kansas was shut down after a circuit breaker in a switchyard failed, causing the loss of power to the plant. The plant is still shut down.

I am a Subscriber to "Power Engineering", somewhat balanced not overtly pro-nuke.

TEPCO causes leaks via negligence

The company said the leak forced the system to stop for one hour and 40 minutes, but the pool's temperature did not rise.

Tokyo Electric said 7 tons of water had leaked from the No.6 reactor.

The temperature fell to minus 8 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning near the damaged plant.

Ruptured pipes caused 3 water leaks on the previous day.

Tokyo Electric official Junichi Matsumoto admitted that the utility failed to take sufficient steps to prevent frozen pipes. He said it will take quick action to protect the pipes from the cold weather.

The Commission noted that it was specifically not tasked with rendering any opinion on the suitability of Yucca Mountain, proposing any specific site for a waste management facility, or offering any opinion on the role of nuclear power in the nation's energy supply mix.
The U.S. currently has more than 65,000 tons of spent nuclear fuel stored at about 75 operating and shutdown reactor sites around the country. More than 2,000 tons are being produced each year. The DOE also is storing an additional 2,500 tons of spent fuel and large volumes of high-level nuclear waste, mostly from past weapons programs, at a handful of government-owned sites.

Funny how that works....a battle of time, and energy, and money, and the powers that be seem to have unlimited amounts of those.   Always a pat answer to swat back any request.

Prussian Blue

I used the letter to below to get Prussian Blue

It Worked.
Doctor Okimoto,

You saw me a few weeks back.

I would like to obtain some Radiogardase to have on hand should the Fukushima incident take a turn for the even worse.   This is also known as Prussian Blue, and it eliminates Cesium and Thalium from the body, with little or no side effects.

The CDC stocks it.

Appreciate you looking at this and providing a prescription, as a prescription is required.

Per the Manufacturer, attached Pharmacy will overnight to me.   You can call in the prescription or fax in, I spoke with Richard who is a pharmacist at the pharmacy.

They will then call me to arrange delivery

Thank you very much for your anticipated help on this matter.  If the UHA prescription coverage can help in any way, that would be great also.   I think this is $130 for 36 pills, and Richard said they must be sold in units of 36.

Dosing information available at website below: Easy to find just Google-- Radiogardase.

It appears that minimum dose for adult is 6 pills per day ( 3 grams), so it seems like 72 pills would cover me for 12 days, and fit my “budget” also.

Letterman Top Ten Reasons Japan Hid the Nuke Risk

David Letterman should be all over that one.

Top Ten Reasons Japan Hid the Nuke Risk:
10) All the Godzilla and Mothra movies had folks on edge.
9) They didn't want to start a run on dust masks.
8) They almost had the Chinese convinced Nuclear power was cheap and harmless.
7) They hired that guy who works for Mr. Burns on The Simpsons as their PR Ace.
6)...feel free to stop me anytime...
okay...They didn't want the public to know the lowest bidder did not get the job.
5) The cleanup was outsourced to some guys with snow shovels, some lysol and a lot of cat litter.
4)The technicians had just hosted a community marshmallow roast.
3) The guy who pronounced the site safe after the disaster had just been released from the asylum.
2) It wasn't the top item on their agenda that meeting. And finally,

Number one reason: They didn't want to scare off the Eco-tourism Conference in Kyoto! Thank you. I told you to stop me anytime.

Vermont Yankee Lawsuit the Actual Text 102 pages

And here is the Judge's ruling, 102 pages, seems kind of long.  Really the conclusion is pages 99 to 102.

Below are quote from the judge's ruling, he would issue relief which in this case means relief to New York Yankee and allow them to continue operating even though past their operational approval limit of 40 years. even though they have has multiple problems at the plant and even though the State no longer wanted them operating.   He says the public interest would be served by issuing permanent injunctions against the state to block the nuke plant from operating==and the he compared the nuke plant case to an Ebay case

Finally, the public interest would not be disserved bythe issuance of the following permanent injunctions. See eBay Inc. v. MercExchange, LLC, 547
U.S. 388, 391 (2006).

And then interestingly enough, he makes a reference to a Pawn Shop Case As a justification for making very specific injunctions which are actually very specific  to a broad rang of things they cant do to shut down he yankee.

Mindful that relief must be “narrowly tailored to fit specific legal violations,” City of
N.Y. v. Mickalis Pawn Shop, LLC, 645 F.3d 114, 144 (2d Cir. 2011), the Court orders, for the
reasons described in this opinion, see Fed. R. Civ. P. 65(d), the following permanent injunctive
relief:

The lie of the "new nuclear" being safe

fireofenergy=said on a Huffpost blog

Reactors based on water for cooling is just plain ego in the face of opposites. Water will turn to hydrogen, explode and disperse toxic and radioactiv
e elements for many miles. That's a worst case. Multiply that by some 450 plants around the world... Somethings bound to happen (and so it did in Japan).

Now, cool a reactor with a NON pressurized substance, and nothing will be dispersed in any explosive manner. So what then is the worst case? Multiply that by, say, 10,000 (needed to displace ALL other sources). What would happen. Nothing because reactors such as LFTR can't meltdown and thus can't expel it's toxic and radioactive mix. As long as the "room" was built strong enough to withstand a major Earthquake (and direct attack), no leakage into ground water, either! So the only "problems" would be periodic parts replacements (which would be more frequent than the LWR's due to higher temps).
Since LFTR is like 200 times more efficient, the waste issue would be much easier to deal with.
The future has been passed up by the need to make money off of inefficiency. That, and a lack of understanding leading to fear, are the ONLY problems with LFTR and its kind.

Uh yeah, so non combine highly corrosive salts, with highly radioactive substances, and high temperatures, and high pressures, and then have them built by the lowest bidder that has also accomplished regulatory capture. Now also make sure that at least 1,000,000 various parts are needed to make the thing work. Now make sure that no terrorist could damage it. Now protect the used fuel products for 100,000 years.

OK, great, no problem looks like your precious little science is just perfect.

UNLESS you would prefer clean safe solar electric, for 2.9 cent per kWH and with no evacuation zone!

Here is the proof. Real data

Solar Electric / Photovoltaic -- Cost per kWH

There are lots of PNP's (pro nuke pimps) out there talking complete garbage such as Solar PV costs 70 cents per kWH.

The Real Cost to Implement PV Solar Electric has dropped to 2.94 Cents per KWH !!!

The world has changed underneath their feet, they don't want to have to learn a new livelihood even they are killing us slowly and sometimes more quickly. More quickly if you unfortunate enough to have inhaled some of the plutonium hot particles that were launched in the jet stream when reactor 3 blew sky-high. Information on that is here:

“Boiling water is not too hard, but generating the heat to raise high-pressure steam inside a sealed vessel for many months on end is damned close to a miracle.

Exactly,
"high-pressure steam inside a sealed vessel for many months on end is damned close to a miracle. "

Exactly, pro nukers are relying on a "miracle" to keep their toys running at 75 times atmospheric pressure, using the dangerous stuff on earth. And not just running for a few months, running for 60 years, with metals that have been bombarded by the strongest radiation, damaging those metals.

You have said it perfectly, you count on a miracle. And if your miracle fails for even a few hours, then WE get dosed with the contamination from your little toys that stroke you ego playing in godlike manner to turn matter directly into energy. There have been 99 SIGNIFICANT accidents, what say you to that, here are those accidents.

The World Population is 5% of the way to being "Contaminated Meat"

And that is with this one recent discovery of one pond of water.

From ENENEWS, thanks to Admin for doing the basic calcs.

Title: Radioactive water found in work pits at Fukushima plant
Source: AJW by The Asahi Shimbun
Date: January 20, 2012
[...] About 500 tons of water was found in the pit of the No. 2 reactor, while about 600 tons was discovered at the No. 3 reactor pit.
Radioactive concentrations for cesium were 16,200 becquerels per cubic centimeter near the No. 2 reactor and 860 becquerels near the No. 3 reactor.
Read the report here
Water with cesium at 16,200 Bq/cm³ * 1,000 cm³/liter = 16,200,000 Bq/liter * 1,000 liters/metric ton = 16,200,000,000 Bq/metric ton * 500 tons = 8,100,000,000,000 Bq (8.1 trillion Bq or 8.1 terabecquerels) of cesium in 500 ton pit

By me

So in that one pond, if that radiation were distributed euqally among the 6B world population each person could have 1350 Bq of Cesium, or 27 Bq per kilogram of body weight.

As we know, limits of 500 Bq per kG are quite high, and above that limit most countries wouldn't allow meat to be sold.

So this one pond that they just found, is enough to give the entire human race a 5% kick (500 Bq/kg / 27 Bq/Kg) towards being "radioactive meat"

Nice, just this one pond that they just found.   Real nice.

How is that clean, safe, nuke power working out for all of you?

Solar Storm -- Coming Soon, Carrington

Right now on Space Weather Dot Com,  A Class 3 Flare from a Sunspot, Erupting into a Magnetic Storm  that will hit Earth.

http://spaceweather.com/

One day, one of these will be a "direct hit" on earth and will cause massive electrical interruption, similar to the Carrington Event of the in which damage was done even though there were hardly and wires or pipelines at the time.

 http://nukepimp.blogspot.com/p/astronomy-and-carrington.html

That will knock out power and transformers, it could be extensive.   Power outages could be widespread and longlasting, because sure the industry has 100 large transformers that can be rapidly finished in production (as long as the manufacturing plant has electrical backup --hmmm---I wonder how many do), but not 10,000.    Outages could last years.

Of course, we can rest assured that the NRC (USA Nuclear Regulatory Commission) is 'investigating' increasing the battery backup for Nuke plants to go from 4 hours to 8 hours.   And y'all know what happens when nuke plants lose power, and their reactors and emergency systems (that in reality are never tested in a FULL DRESS REHEARSAL) create a meltdown.

And y'all know what happens to those HUNDREDs of re-engineered, re-packed, spent fuel pools with the plutonium laden rods which REQUIRE cooling and pumping of treated cooling water continously.   Well they go in in a nuclear reaction, creating a fire, and possibly explosions of the most dangerous stuff on earth.    But REST ASSURED, the NRC got you covered with their new "8 hour rule", even though this Carrington outage might last years....with 400 spent fuel pool on fire and exploding plutonium throughout the US and the world.

We can't fix all this in a year or two.    But we have to start now.   We are living on borrowed time.   An outside observer, a space alien perhaps, would laugh in a macabre way about the way we are killing ourselves to live "the good life" with plentiful power, putting our entire planet, our genetic heritage, our DNA, our very existence, at risk.

Thanks. For those who think it’s just silliness:

RE-BUNK – restating a position that is not well-supported factually, or restating it with details changed. Serves to promote confusion, intended to support a weak or unsupportable position.

POST-BUNKING – pro-active and after-the-fact. Restates a position, or promotes false/misleading info
or adds false/misleading info in response to new or discovered conditions. May serve to reposition or even change a previously stated position or intention.

PRE-BUNKING – falsely positioning future intended acts or consequences, falsely framing terms of future discussion, serves to obfuscate and/or limit discovery through complete dialogue.
In a word – propaganda.

Truth is not the friend of nuke.    Be aware of false argumentative techniques.

This from or-well at ENENEWS who is also cranking out some good poetry.

The pro-nuclear skunks
in a post-Fuku funk
got so excited
they were grabbing their junk
from statistical trunks
trying to debunk
whatever numbers
that said it all stunk.
“Let’s rebunk the debunk
and crank up the spin,
muddy the waters
and have a Science Crap-In.
We’ve legions in Media
of post-bunking lunks -
we’ll give all the sheeple
a Pre-bunking dunk
so the next time it happens
they won’t realise we’ve shrunk
their populations.

 There’s then and there’s now
AND THEN THERE’S FOREVER!
No need to get shirty
and call on heuristics
We get stuffed by the weather
whatever statistics.
Some will chaff chide and rebuff
when common sense says
one is more than enough.
I mean hot particles
and NPPs -
The program that powers
nuclear disease,
The pogromme, the putsch
the coup against life -
transuranic insanity
blithely defended
by crooks anti-humanity
and by power depraved -
to bring those ones down
will take many being brave.

How Many Nuclear Engineers Needed to Change a Light Bulb

Apparently Changing a Light Bulb can almost lead to a melt down.....

Palisades nuclear plant accident investigated

It began with a light bulb.
Trying to fix a burned-out light bulb on an indicator button led to a serious incident that left the Palisades nuclear plant on Lake Michigan without half its electrical power on Sept. 25, 2011. A piece of equipment slipped while a worker was troubleshooting on a live electrical panel, causing an arc of electricity and a loss of half the indicators in the room that controls the reactor. Signals went haywire for a while. The plant shut down.

God's Poem

Super technology, right near the top,
Supposedly some of the best that we’ve got.
Illusion balloons
and with one simple pin
Mama Earth shows us the shape we are in.
“You nukular boyz play with dangerous toys
Now many are hurt it’s too late for coy.
I’ve given you so much for you to enjoy
Now I’ve gotten much more than just annoyed
I’ve got a tectonic paddle that roars
and I’ll wash out your mouths
as well as your shores!
If all of my children
with nukes you would kill
I’m ready to show you
a new kind of thrill
called species survival
against MY HOUSE ODDS!
Don’t think for a minute
I care for your prayers
and I don’t back down
from slayers or dares!
So if you don’t want
the extinction slap
you’d better shut down
all this nuclear crap!

Petition the Government, Easy Way to Write Emails

This link takes you to a page where you can send letters to Elected Officials in the US

They do listen a little bit, when too many people complain they start to get worried they are going to lose their job.

Speak your Mind!

Plant in Kansas Shut Down KEEP EM DOWN

http://www.kwch.com/news/kwch-news-ccd-report-2010-incident-at-wolf-creek-nuclear-plant-20110317,0,32902.story

The plant owners failed to address known problems, and these problems did in fact play out and cause a plant shutdown.

Greed, Ignorance, Denial.     Occasional human attributes do not mix with nuke.    Nature and Acts of god do not mix with nuke.     Earth does not mix with nuke.

Shut them all Down!
